The Bacuit Archipelago

Let's be clear: this is one of the most beautiful place on earth we have ever seen! This archipelago is made of limestone islands, sandy beaches, beautiful lagoons, and clear water. The cliffs are just spectacular! We were unconscious enough to do a cliff-climbing trek with a Filipino guide: we thought we would be peacefully hiking and we ended up climbing rocks as vertical as a wall with all the safety you can imagine:-)Anyway the view from the top was brilliant!

To access the archipelago, a few nights in the busy town of El Nido are unfortunately needed. We were lucky enough to be there before the Chinese New Year and the invasion of the archipelago by Asian tourists  and Westerner expats. As in may places in Philippines, tours and prices were standard to explore the archipelago   Fishermen reconverted in tour guides drop you from beautiful islands to amazing lagoons. And of course the less crowded the tour the closer you get to a tropical paradise. But we found little tricks to be truly alone: see-kayaking or solo tour with a funny fisherman met on the beach.

Things may change quickly though. A new airport is being built up. Instead of 6 hours driving (half of the time on a dirt road), El Nido could become easily accessible. Then who knows how many thousands of people would come as visitors...in Asia, everything gets to another dimension.

Oh yeah!!!.. Kayaking!!.. a great activity to explore an archipelago!!.. just.. don`t do it with your girlfriend!!.. and if forced to, never, never, NEVER let her stay in the back seat!!!.. ;)

What the hell am I doing here!
