Sabang is famous because of its undergroung river, supposedly one of the longest on earth. Filipinos are proud of their New seven wonder of the world (this comes from a dubious vote on the internet but well, it is official and advertised everywhere) and come from all the ocuntry to visit it. We knew in advance this wonder was a bit disappointing but decided to stay for a few days to enjoy the beautiful beach of Sabang and its wild surroundings.
The trip to the subterranean river was eventually interesting: 30 min on a boat with big waves to arrive at the entrance surrounded by a beautiful lagoon. We went on a 45 min tour boat inside the cave on the river. It was only 1.5km of the 21 it covers. The comments of the guide/boat paddler were so pitiful that we couldn't help laughing! Instead of giving us some useful geological information he focused on the shapes of the rocks: from Virgin mary to carrots or pumpkins, with a stop in front of his "ex", we realised the depth of Filipino imagination...That was the only improvement that could have been brought in another wise well-organised tour considering the number of people.
Countryside in Sabang is really wild. Mountains seem to have never been conquered there. We rented a motorbike, did some jungle walks thanks to Gianni's GPS, explored the coast...waooo...it was great!!! And the beach with its constant wave really gave an ocean feeling.
